Electrical work in Croydon

Covering CR0, CR2, CR7, CR8 and the streets around them.

Croydon's housing changes a lot within a few miles. Thornton Heath is mostly terraced houses and cottages around its clock tower and high street. Addiscombe's East India Estate was built between 1862 and 1900 on land once owned by the East India Company, and further south, Purley is known for larger detached houses, including the Webb Estate, an Edwardian garden suburb laid out by William Webb.

The town centre is another world, with residential towers such as the 44-storey Ten Degrees on George Street and big plans for North End, where electric trams ran after 1901, and the Whitgift Centre. Flats in newer blocks were wired to recent standards, so the work there tends to be fault finding, extra sockets and lighting changes rather than rewires. It's the older terraces and semis that tend to need rewiring, a new consumer unit or a proper EICR.

Landlords have more to think about this autumn. Croydon has required planning permission for small HMO conversions borough-wide since January 2020, and two new licensing schemes came into force in September 2026. For landlords with older terraces in Thornton Heath or Addiscombe, a current EICR is now a licensing condition as well as a legal duty. Out in Purley and South Croydon, houses with driveways are well suited to home EV chargers, and we cover those installs along with emergency callouts right across the borough.

Landlords in Croydon

Croydon's new selective licensing scheme came into force on 25 September 2026 in 14 wards, including Fairfield, South Croydon, Thornton Heath and both Addiscombe wards, with additional HMO licensing now covering the whole borough. The licence conditions require an EICR every five years.
